SC-57 MOTHER & SON TOGETHER by Jane Tanner

FOREWORD

Desertion has aptly been termed the poor man’s divorce but, in recent decades, more and more middle-class husbands have been taking this easy way out of what to them is an intolerable marital situation. Such behavior is deplorable, for no real man, whatever the problems between his wife and himself, would ever turn his back on his helpless children and walk away into the night, never to return. Unfortunately, as missing persons blotters across the nation will testify, there are many half-men among us who do just this.

Children so callously deprived of a father’s guiding influence inevitably bear the emotional scars of parental rejection. In addition, if “Daddy” was the family’s sole breadwinner, the hapless offspring he leaves behind is certain to suffer a lowered standard of living, if not downright physical deprivation, in the crucial period of their formative years.

It is readily understandable why the decent people of the United States look with censure and disdain upon the half-men who, because of weakness or callous disregard, shirk their responsibilities by choosing to desert the wives and children that is their undeniable duty to support. But what of the broken families they leave behind?

It is this theme which Jane Tanner has chosen to explore in her latest novel, MOTHER & SON TOGETHER. At forty-three, Marge Sayre, who has never worked outside the home, finds herself facing the world alone as a deserted wife with herself and her nine-year-old son Kenny to support as best she can.

Full of self-doubts already, she soon discovers that a lady of her age, with no work experience, is up against it in the current tightness of today’s job market. Due to a combination of sexual-deprivation and panic over the uncertainty of her future, Marge — who is still legally wedded to the husband who deserted her and their child — latches onto the first attractive, seemingly strong man she meets.

As the story opens, Marge and her son are living in a shoddy little apartment — a far cry from the comfortable, middle-class home they have lost — with Frank Dixon, a redheaded house painter who would rather booze than work. Marge couldn’t have chosen a worse lover. Frank is physically strong, all right, but he is somewhat sadistic and suffers incestuous fantasies which his voyeuristic nature urges him to impose upon the basically decent mother and her innocent little boy.

Frank deliberately tempts the nine-year-old by making sure the child sees him having intercourse with his mother. Marge is mortified, of course, but this humiliation is only a preview of what Frank has in store for her. He later pours whiskey down her until she’s drunk, then works her up to a feverish pitch of sexual desire before he gets her son into the act in a very sneaky manner.

When she realizes what is going on, Marge is outraged, but by this time she is too intoxicated to defend her honor. Frank nearly ruptures Marge with a huge, custom-made dildo, which he turns over to the boy once he stuffs it up her and, while her child is ramming the wicked instrument to her, Frank further degrades Marge by forcing her to fellate him to orgasm with her little boy looking on. By the time Frank pushes the lad into position between her nylon-clad legs, Marge is hardly in a position to prevent her child from going further.

This ends Marge’s affair with Frank. But it is only the beginning of her problems, for the brutal redhead has set the wheels of incest in motion and, in addition to her financial troubles, Marge’s sexually awakened son won’t leave her alone. Nor will Bobo, the massive German shepherd Marge has raised from a puppy. Slowly but surely the previously high morals of this deserted wife and mother collapse, until at last she gives up and begins to enjoy wallowing in the carnal wickedness of both incestuous and bestial lust. This is an incredible story revealing the depths of depravity to which any decent woman finding herself in Marge’s predicament might well sink.
